Description: | The world of dance music has evolved time and time again, creating different hybrids and syntheses of sounds. These new aural fixations may catch the ear of some (or many), but what do you do when your productions are ill-received by the label owners of your genre specification? The answer is simple and clear: Start your own movement. And that’s exactly what Kreatrix Evilution mastermind, Twisted Freq did.
Influenced heavily by edginess of Weirdo, Lab4, Mishka and Acid Ted, Twisted Freq was determined to create a style of music that brought out the darkness in trance. Not many labels paid attention, not because his tunes weren’t good, but it is possible that they could have been just too dark. There wasn’t much interest in his sound and, upon rejection of the massive Nu Energy, Twisted Freq decided to take matters into his own hands. “When I started writing, I was balls deep in hard trance, and when I was ready to send out demos to labels, no hard trance label was interested because it was too dark or I didn’t know the right people,” He says.
Featuring Micken and himself, the original Kreatrix boasted 20 releases. There came a point though, that the Kreatrix godfather wasn’t satisfied with his project and created a new evolution of sound, aptly titled “Kreatrix Evilution.” “One day I decided to start fresh and revamp everything. The result became known as Kreatrix Evilution. We made a new website, brought new staff on board and created a new logo and promo videos,” He goes on: I’ve got this problem that I hate everything from my past. It’s because as my years roll on, it’s natural to get better and makes your old stuff embarrassing to you. I wanted to make sure that there was no cheese whatsoever on this new label. In the past, I let some uplifting stuff slide and tracks I didn’t really enjoy that much ended up being signed. I wanted each release to be well thought through and a smasher. Most importantly, the tune must be dark and/or twisted.”
The Kreatrix Evilution will also be upgraded with a new look and a lot more goodies, new staff members, new artists, guest remixers and much more. “We’re going to make this look as professional as possible,” Twisted Freq adds. “I’ve also managed to add our material to other online shops. We added the back catalogue of Kreatrix Recordings to the Nu Energy shop last year and are in the process of adding Kreatrix Evilution to Finrg. Nightforce, my apprentice, will be finally releasing some dark pieces to Evilution, and Epyx & Cyrez from Finland will be dropping some material as well. There’s also one more artist added to the roster, but I can’t say much more until its official. When all is said and done though, we aren’t in it for the money, just keeping darkness alive and to inspire the next generation.”
