Description: | Miss Innocent’s first exposure to electronic music started in the mid 90s when acts like Front 242, Depeche Mode and New Order were still rocking the radio. By the fall of 1997, in partnership with DJ Dr Phreak, she’d begun to learn the art of deejaying, and together they hosted a popular Vancouver afterhours, known simply as ‘1409’, bringing in high-profile DJs like Mike Huckaby and David Alvarado.
In 1998, she along with six other conspirators, went on to form Soundproof - a promotions crew which helped to establish the burgeoning underground party scene in Vancouver, putting on quality events which catered to the tougher end of techno and trance. Using Soundproof as a proving ground, Colleen refined her craft and built a reputation well-suited to the irony of her name. The doe-eyed brunette’s uncompromising blend of hard, driving trance and acid was getting her booked for shows all over North America (Warehouse-Calgary, Sonar-Vancouver, Ray Junior-Montreal, Y Afterhours-Edmonton, Nightmare-Toronto) and then, in 2003 she relocated to Graz, Austria, to start her real education.
Being abroad exposed her to the British, German and Swedish schools of techno which were so prevalent in the club scene at that time. Whilst enjoying the laid-back Austrian way of life, she continued to build her reputation and was soon booked to play alongside mainstay artists like Claude Young, Technasia, Chris Liberator, Dave the Drummer, Massimo, Renato Cohen, Jay Denham, British Murder Boys, James Ruskin, Pacou Asuna and Billy Nasty. As well as performing at various clubs and festivals (Hifi Bar-Australia, Club Extravaganza-Croatia, Stereodrome-Slovakia, Supalova Club-Slovakia, Eternity-Czech Rep, Fabric-Czech Rep, Cosmic Trip Festival-Czech Rep, Sun City-Austria, Obsession Festival-Austria, Cazin Club-Austria, Kuca Club-Serbia, Euforia Club-Trieste Italy, Stuk-Slovenia, The Zoo-Belgium, Locked-Manchester, Antistatic-Czech Rep). Eventually, her style evolved into what it is today - a unique blend of dark, driving techno, tech house and tech-trance.
Not content to be solely behind the decks, Colleen worked in A&R for Goathead Records, Futuretech Artist Management and Zeiger Promotions while in Austria. Also, in 2005 she helped run the UK-based labels Unknown Forces and Drumworks, with producer Dean Rodell. Together they started up the label and PR group Subdivision Media which ended up relocating to Berlin, and branched out to include a booking agency and four subsidiary labels. In 2006 Colleen decided to make the move back to Canada and is now currently based in Vancouver, BC. She is still a key member of the Soundproof Crew and contributes regularly to the electronic music scene as a promoter, DJ and artist manager/consultant, in addition to being the ‘Vancouver Electronic Music’ writer for the Examiner.com website.
WORLDWIDE SHE HAS PLAYED IN: Canada, USA, Australia, Slovenia, Ireland, Croatia, Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Serbia, Hungary, Italy, Belgium, England
