TURNED AROUND

EDITOR: Remember "Backward Day" when you were in grammar school? One
specific day was designated for everyone to come to school with their
clothes on inside out and backward.

Cotati City Council is operating in a perpetual "Backward Day."
First, a legally questionable medical marijuana pot club is proposed
for Cotati and without considering its risks of violence, break-ins
and attracting pot growers to our city to supply said establishments,
the five-member council has unanimously stated its desire for it to
become part of our community.

However, a Subway sandwich shop that offers various healthy choices
is being vehemently opposed. Initially the council appeared in favor
of a deli business, but then yielded to the complaints of a few
red-faced, vein-bulging, name-calling neighboring business owners
demanding a ban on a legitimate and competitive business in their
shopping center.

As a result, the City Council called an "emergency" meeting and then
placed a 45-day moratorium to determine whether it will allow a
Subway into Cotati. Here, a legitimate business is being potentially
run out of town while a pot club is being fully embraced.

Dear City Council, turn your shirts around. "Backward Day" was cute
in the fifth grade, but for you to operate our city like that now is scary.

Where is the common sense? I'm guessing common sense is just not very
common anymore.
