MOST PEOPLE WANT NEW DRUG POLICIES
Doug Clark (column, Oct. 23) and Joseph Hayes (Letter Box, Oct. 27) are
incorrect in believing that the drug war will last. The authorities in the
United Kingdom just decided to decriminalize marijuana, and Canada has
admitted that the plant has medical properties.
Americans are even starting to realize that we shouldn't be dumping
herbicides on South American peasants just because we have a penchant for
cocaine.
Do the authors have any idea what our drug policies will be like when 80
percent of the citizens vote? I, for one, can't wait to find out. But I do
know that we won't be imprisoning ourselves for bad gardening. And maybe we
can kiss this corrupt two-party system goodbye as well.
