DARE HEADS FOR NIGHT

RCMP Const. Kate Bamber's headed for night school.

She won't be learning; she'll be teaching.

Bamber is introducing an evening version of the 17-week Drug Abuse
Resistance Education (DARE) program she runs in 10 elementary schools now.

The pilot project, the first of its kind in British Columbia, is in
response to ongoing requests from parents, teachers and principals of
schools which don't have DARE programs.

The program for Grades 5 and 6 students teaches how to avoid drugs and
violence and has, Bamber says, helped many parents learn how to raise the
issue of drugs with their children.

Resources restrict the number of schools which receive DARE, she adds, and
a night session could be the answer for eager parents.

It will be conducted at the Henry Grube Education centre, 245 Kitchener
Cresc., and will cost $20.

Enrolment is limited to 30 students and registration will be cut off on
Nov. 7. To register, call Bamber at 828-3229.
