LEGALIZATION OF DRUGS THREATENS A DISASTER

I have gone to see Doug Clark several times over the years, mostly to tell
him I think he is wrong about something. When I think he is right, I
usually just phone him. I have found him to be thoughtful and knowledgeable
about the subjects he writes about. He is right about illegal drugs; they
are evil. Many years ago, there was an experiment in Switzerland called
Needle Park where the Swiss allowed drugs to have free rein. It was a
disaster. Volunteers had to go in and nurse and feed the wretched addicts
each morning so they wouldn't die. The Swiss finally had to close Needle Park.

If we would turn our nation over to the druggies, it would be to turn it
over to the drug lords. It would be the end of America as we know it. I
know that the drug laws don't work perfectly, but they do work well enough
so that America hasn't turned into one big Needle Park.

For many years, I was a volunteer fireman. One of our big jobs was to go to
car wrecks and pry the injured and dead drunks out of the twisted metal
remains of their cars, usually in the middle of the night, not a pleasant
job. If we legalize drugs, so many more lives are going to be ruined and
cut short. It will be much worse than, and in addition to, the problems
caused by alcohol.

Good work, Enterprise and Doug Clark, always fight against illegal drugs. I
know you will.
