LANGLEY DARE A CANADIAN FIRST

For the first time anywhere in Canada, the RCMP is running a full
time Drug Awareness Resistance Education (DARE) program, and it's
happening right here in Langley.

Every Grade 5 class in the Langley School District, as well as some
of the private schools, will have the DARE program offered and three
Langley RCMP members have been dedicated to full time duties
presenting the curriculum.

It is offered over 17 weeks on a one class per week basis.

By the end of the school year, almost 2,000 students will have
completed the training, which focuses on anti-violence, anti-bullying
and self esteem issues, as well as substance abuse education.

Funding for the program is made possible by donations from the
community, corporate sponsors, and PAC fund-raising.

Donations so far have been made by the Langley Rotary Club, and the
Langley Crime Prevention Society, and more funding is being actively
sought to underwrite the cost, which has been pegged at $11 per
student.
