UNDER-21 RESIDENTS LACK GOOD PLACES TO GO

"There will be a $5 cover charge for anyone under the age of 21."

This was the sign that my friends and I met one night when we had gone to a local restaurant hoping to have a safe, legal and inexpensive yet enjoyable evening at the "Karaoke Night."

My friends and I are all in high school and did not want to spend or could not afford the cover fee to go in regardless of whether they were going to sing. We were simply trying to have a fun evening without doing anything illegal or unsafe, but our society makes that almost impossible.

On other occasions my friends and I have been thrown out of local parking lots, parks and playgrounds when we were simply playing football, soccer or Frisbee.

I do not drink alcohol or do drugs; therefore, finding fun ways to spend time with my friends is very difficult.

If our society is going to look down on teenagers for doing things such as drinking and drugs then the society as a whole also needs to provide opportunities for and allow these teenagers to have fun with their peers in a safe, legal and inexpensive way.
