ASHCROFT AGAIN
Remember the new Republicans? Get government off our backs, out of our
lives? The states as the great laboratories for new ideas?
Having attempted to circumvent the Bill of Rights with his "anti-terrorist"
legislation, Attorney General John Ashcroft is now attempting to negate
Oregon's Death With Dignity Act, approved twice by the people of that state.
Ashcroft doesn't like it, so he's ordered the Drug Enforcement
Administration to move to revoke doctors' licenses to prescribe drugs if
they participate, effectively revoking their medical licenses.
He apparently doesn't like California's medical use of marijuana laws,
either, so he's had the DEA raid offices in Los Angeles and El Dorado
County, confiscating computers and thousands of patient records.
"Enduring freedom" apparently is a concept foreign to the grand leader of
the Justice Department.
