MAYTAG'S $2,500 TO DARE IS INVESTMENT IN FUTURE

Chalk up another victory for the good guys as the Cleveland Police
Department's highly-acclaimed DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
Program recently received a strong $2,500 endorsement from Maytag Cleveland
Cooking Products.

Making the on-site check presentation was Mike Reusswig, Human Resources,
who credited the DARE Program with being an innovative and invaluable
approach to fighting drug and substance abuse by educating youngsters in
their early classroom years.

"It's always rewarding for us at Maytag to support community programming
like DARE," Reusswig said. "Our children are our future. A contribution to
DARE is an investment in family strength, in our schools and in the special
quality of life that we've grown to appreciate in the Cleveland and Bradley
County community."

Accepting the check on behalf of the Police Department were DARE
Coordinator Mike Moses and Chief of Police Lee Reese. In receiving the
Maytag contribution, Moses pointed to the significance of taking programs
like DARE into the classroom because of the power and strength in exposing
school-aged children to the dangers of drug and substance abuse.

"This is the best way we have of fighting drug abuse; that is, getting to
the children while they're young and before they have a chance to start
experimenting with substance abuse," Moses commented.

Reese acknowledged the strong partnership between Maytag, the police
department and area schools. "The Cleveland Police Department is truly
thankful to Maytag for their financial and moral support of programs like
DARE," the law enforcement veteran stressed. "These types of gifts make it
possible for the Police Department to maintain a presence in the public
classroom and to talk to the children eye-to-eye about things they need to
know at that early age."

Reese pointed out DARE continues to make big changes in the lives of many
area children because it teaches confidence and self-esteem; plus, it
reaches out to many youngsters who are at a natural disadvantage because of
lacking parental support, low incomes and other factors that pose ongoing
obstacles to school-aged children.

Reusswig said Maytag's support of programs like DARE is a show of support
for its employees' families. "This company supports DARE as much for our
own associates, many of whom have school-aged children and grandchildren,"
he stated. "As parents and grandparents, they too want the best for their
loved ones. We at Maytag are very proud to be able to make that happen by
supporting programs like DARE."
