GANG HOUSE BILL TABLED

The Doer government has proposed tough new legislation -- the first in
Canada -- which will give authorities the power to shut down fortified gang
houses and outlaw biker bunkers.

The Fortified Buildings Act, tabled in the legislature yesterday, will also
give cops the authority to target fortified crack houses.

Now, suspects have time to flush any evidence down the toilet before cops
can get inside fortified drug houses, vice division Insp. Stan Tataryn said
yesterday.

A person disobeying an order to remove fortifications would face up to
three months in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 for individuals and
$10,000 for corporations in the proposed law. The director of public safety
could order the buildings dismantled.
