ANTI-DRUG EFFORT ON TRACK
A coalition of community groups is counting on several hundred feet of
winding plastic track and a slate of sleek-looking slot cars to
capture the attention of local children.
Some 800 Grade 5 students from 24 area schools have been invited to
take part in Racing Against Drugs, a drug-prevention initiative being
held at the ODAS Park Rollerskating Place, April 9-11.
"This is a unique program because it provides a fun-filled,
action-packed experience for young people, while promoting drug-free
choices," said OPP Const. Tim Ticknor.
Sponsored by a youth subcommittee of the Orillia and District Safe
Community Committee (ODSCC), the project features a number of partners.
"Anything we can do to raise their awareness and reduce or eliminate
the use of drugs by young people will help us build a healthy and safe
community," added Carolyn Jones, of ODSCC.
