NSW GOVT LIMITS ACCESS TO COLD TABLETS USED TO MAKE SPEED

The New South Wales Government will make it tougher to buy over the counter
drugs containing pseudoephedrine in a bid to curb the illegal production of
amphetamines or "speed".

The changes mean people will only be able to buy a single packet of drugs
including Sudafed, Demazin and Actifed at a time from a chemist.

The Health Minister, Craig Knowles, says illegal drug makers are buying
large quantities of the drugs, with one packet of 30 tablets able to be
turned into a gram of pure speed worth around $2,000 on the street.

Mr Knowles says chemists will soon have to keep the drugs away from public
display and only chemists will be able to sell the products.
