NO REMEDY IS OWED TO INMATE'S FAMILY
Abe Aamidor's article in the Dec. 2 Star paints the Coleman family hardship
as something that society should provide a remedy for ("Drug war's other
toll"). If Jeff Coleman had committed the crime instead of his wife, should
the government have given the family the equivalent of his salary?
I suspect that families frequently spend large sums of money on legal
defense for their loved ones. Is Aamidor advocating that we provide free
legal help to people who have the means to pay so they can keep a nest egg?
Bernadette Coleman committed a crime that she was intelligent enough to
know the consequences of, both for herself, and likely for her family.
