MARITIMER SAYS MEDICAL MARIJUANA NO SCAM

To the editor:

Re: "Bentall money going to fight drug liberalization," Nov. 30.

If Mrs. Bentall is ever blessed with the ravages of cancer, multiple
sclerosis, AIDS, or any one of the diseases that permit Canadians to apply
for medical access to marijuana, she might come down off her high horse.

I suspect if she experienced extremely negative side-effects from the many
legal poisons prescribed to treat the symptoms of these diseases, she'd
shoot the horse.

Intoxication is not what I seek. Medical marijuana is not a scam. The U.K.
government sanctioned a study that billed marijuana as a "medical miracle"
(The Observer, Nov. 3, 2001). Predictions are that it will be a wonder
drug, ranking with penicillin and aspirin. Eighty per cent of the study's
participants derived more benefit from marijuana than prescription
medications. Medical marijuana does work!

If anything is a scam, Mrs. Bentall, it's groups like IDEAS that continue
to perpetuate anti-medical marijuana deceptions. I know: I'm a medical
marijuana exemption holder.
