TREATMENT, NOT JAIL, IS SOLUTION TO DRUG ABUSE
It was encouraging to see in the Daily Herald's drug series that Kane
County authorities, most notably Kane County Judge James Doyle, the Kane
County State's Attorney's office and probation and law enforcement, were
not only acknowledging a drug epidemic in the suburbs, but had also
implemented innovative programs to combat it, abandoning the typical lock
'em up mentality of prosecutors and judges in favor of treatment for addicts.
I can only hope that officials in DuPage County will put aside the politics
and start taking steps to work together to treat and not just incarcerate
our addiction problem.
