HEGE DESERVES CREDIT FOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The article by Benny Phillips Dec. 15 was titled perfectly: "Hit and run."
He was associating George O'Leary and the Davidson County deputies. What is
the obsession that the Enterprise has with negative articles about Gerald
Hege? I've seen little or no positive things about Hege or his department
in your paper. In view of the fact that your headquarters is in Guilford
County, don't you think you have enough to take care of on the home front?
I read your paper every day, and in it I see enough bad stuff going on
around you to make you feel bad about launching out into another county.
Have you ever considered getting the beam out of your eye instead of
looking for a splinter in other people's eyes?
Why don't you run a survey and ask people which Triad county they would
rather live in?
I know of several previously drug-infested communities that have been
cleaned up by this sheriff who you claim may have his priorities mixed up.
If you are interested in fair and balanced reporting, you owe the people of
Davidson County just that, not just anything negative that you want to print.
I don't have a problem if you don't like Hege. Just give him a chance and
take a look at some good things he has done for our county. If you don't, I
am going to do like some other folks by ceasing to subscribe to the Enterprise.
What those deputies are charged with doing was wrong, but I challenge you
to ask Sheriff Barnes, if this had happened in his department, would he
have been able to nip it in the bud?
