HIGH SCHOOL'S PROACTIVE MEASURES ARE SUPPORTED
Dear Editor,
I would like to write in support of the administration of both the school
and district in the action taken to curb drug use in our schools. It takes
a dedicated and bold team to tackle this situation. All too often, schools
and boards sweep these issues under the rug by ignoring them rather than
addressing the problems head-on in fear that public perception of the
school may suffer.
Our schools are no different than any other schools in Alberta. The only
difference is that our administrators are bettering the environment in
which our students learn by taking difficult action.
We at the Alberta High School of Fine Arts School Council are impressed
with the fairness and firmness by which our administrators are conducting
this clean-up. The rules are clearly understood by all parties and we offer
our congratulations and support in improving the learning environment in
our schools.
Thank you Harry Morrison, Cathy Dodds, Ric Morales, and Jim McLellan. Other
schools and boards would be better served by people like you.

HIGH SCHOOL COMMENDED
Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Foothills Composite High School Council I would like to
publicly commend principal Harry Morrison for the manner in which he has
chosen to address a most difficult situation at our local school.
The vast degree of transparency, and sincerity, he has provided to our
School Council, and now to all the parents and students, truly exemplifies
leadership not only for the Foothills Composite High School, but to the
entire community of Okotoks. Clearly the openness and pro-active approach
demonstrated by Mr. Morrison will serve to set the standard for the
neighboring schools who are closely monitoring our situation.
At this point in time I would like to take this opportunity to strongly
urge all parents and students to make plans to attend our next school
council forum regarding drug awareness scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7
pm at the Foothills Composite. Discussions will focus on user symptoms,
school policies and consequences, current statistics and existing support
groups.
Please mark it on your calendar. . . it is a meeting you cannot afford to miss.
Norm Brennand, Chair, Foothills Composite High School Council
