People and organizations that contributed to drug and alcohol prevention
efforts were honored by the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board of
Lucas County with its fifth annual ADAS awards last night during an
alcohol-free reception at the Navy Bistro.

Recipients of the ADAS award included Cathy Sperling, director of training
for Community Prevention Partnership; Lola Scott, a counselor at Substance
Abuse Services, Inc., and Dr. Charles Travis, a physician who created a
curriculum on drug and alcohol issues for students at the Medical College
of Ohio, Jay Salvage, ADAS executive director, said.

Others getting the award were Morell Allen Baber Fonfield, a community
activist and founder of Mothers Outraged Against Drugs, which holds an
annual Mother's Day march, and the Sylvania Community Action Team, a
grass-roots drug and alcohol prevention group.

Special awards were given to Mayor-elect Jack Ford, who founded Substance
Abuse Services, Inc.; the Lucas County Common Pleas Court for recognizing
the role of drugs and alcohol in criminal behavior, and Lucas County
Juvenile Court for its family drug court.
