BORDER SHOULD BE HUMANE

To the editor,

In light of the drowning incidents that have taken place at our
border, I propose that our border patrol discontinues its efforts to
prevent drug trafficking and illegal immigration, and take a more
humanitarian role.

It's about time our Border Patrol put away their guns, and begin
following their hearts, which I'm sure, will lead them to a
humanitarian effort. A childhood friend of mine, Jonathan Swift, who
has been a Border Patrol agent for eight years, has mentioned to me
several times during private conversations between he and I of his and
other agent's desire for this revolution.

Training facilities could easily discontinue the Patrol's arms
training and begin lifeguard training instead. Patrol helicopters
could be equipped with harnesses and converted into rescue
helicopters. Rescue boats could be placed in the river and with
Vicente Fox's desire for an open border, I'm sure agents will be
allowed plenty of access. This may even pave the way for aid stations
in areas where illegal immigrants are in danger of dehydration. The
agents we have now could run the entire operation. Without the need
for city patrolling, plenty of agents would be available for this.

A few more drugs may make their way into the country, but this is
humanity we're talking about. If my plan is implemented, the benefits
will be clearly visible within a matter of weeks. An immediate
increase of happier, and grateful immigrants will be seen in our
streets. Just remember, humanity is at stake.
