INCIDENT REQUIRED MORE SENSITIVITY FROM CHIEF

The shooting that occurred in Alabama Village should have been handled more
sensitively.

The Prichard police chief made some insensitive statements when he said, "I
don't care what they say," concerning the two Prichard narcotics officers
shooting their weapon 19 times and leaving three unarmed suspects wounded,
one critical.

The approach should have been for the concern and safety of all the
citizens of Prichard.

The mayor should have delivered a statement in regard to the wounded, and
said, "We are saddened that three of our citizens are wounded by our
officers and are placing these officers on leave, pending investigations."

This would have brought peace and harmony within the community. Instead,
the insensitive approach created havoc, and consequences were severe.
