MARIJUANA STASH HIDDEN IN TRUCK CROSSING BORDER
BLAINE, Wash. - U.S. Customs inspectors seized more than a half-ton of
high-potency "B.C. Bud" marijuana from a beer truck in what they called the
largest such bust on the U.S.-Canada border.
Customs officers working the commercial truck crossing late Tuesday night
noticed a strong marijuana odor when they opened the back of the
California-bound truck.
Inside, they found 34 large hockey bags containing more than 1,400 pounds
of marijuana, mingled with a bottled beer shipment.
The driver was arrested and taken to the Whatcom County jail.
Since October, Customs inspectors here have seized more than two tons of
B.C. Bud hidden in commercial trucks, said Peg Fearon, port director for
Customs in Blaine.
The wholesale value of the 2 tons is about $12 million, she said.
