BORDER PATROL SEIZES MORE THAN 4,000 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA IN ONE DAY
Three U.S. Border Patrol seizures in a day yielded more than 4,000 pounds
of marijuana.
All three seizures occurred Sunday.
The Border Patrol said the first was during a morning patrol along the
banks of the Rio Grande. Agents tracked footprints from the river and
discovered a sugar sack full of marijuana sitting on the ground. The same
trail led to an abandoned pickup truck containing five more sacks. Agents
seized a total of 985 pounds of marijuana valued at $788,000. No suspects
were found or arrests made.
The second seizure occurred in Garciasville when agents patrolling the
river area found an abandoned sport utility vehicle containing 122 bundles
of marijuana weighing a total of 2,418 pounds and valued at $1.9 million.
The third seizure came in Rio Grande City when agents saw a pickup truck
driver jump from his vehicle and swim across the river to Mexico. The truck
contained four sugar sacks packed with marijuana totaling 676 pounds and
valued at more than $540,000.
