VEHICLES MAY BE SEARCHED IN LOTS AT SYLVANIA SCHOOLS
The Sylvania Board of Education last night was asked to erect signs at all
the district's parking lots warning that vehicles on the property are
subject to search.
Larry Duwve, assistant principal at Southview High School, said that of
four students' cars he had searched, three contained contraband. One had
alcohol, and two had drug paraphernalia, he said.
Mr. Duwve said students understand that their lockers are school property
and can be searched at any time, so some have begun to keep illicit
substances in their cars. He said the drug situation at Sylvania schools is
likely no different from any other system, but the signs would be a warning
to avoid drugs.
