HEROIN STORIES NOT NEWS
The News' story of Jan. 14, "Heroin use up in suburbs," on heroin hitting
the Denver suburbs seems to abrogate the classic "man bites dog" principal
of journalism. It would have been news if the failed policies of the War on
Drugs were not resulting in the spread of the more serious intoxicants to
youth. That these failed policies are resulting in such a spread is hardly
news, though it is excellent nose-rubbing for the apologists for the policy.
