ILLINOIS: CHICAGO ACTS ON MURDER WAVE
Chicago's police superintendent announced steps to combat the city's rising
number of murders, the highest in the nation last year at 666. The
superintendent, Terry Hillard, said officers would more aggressively pursue
outstanding warrants and parole violators, make targets of gangs and drug
dealers, seize vehicles in which guns and narcotics are found, and increase
their presence in neighborhoods with high homicide rates.
