SENTENCES TOKEN DETERRENT FOR DEALERS

Although I admire the neighbours of the crack houses in Surrey for their
courage in trying to get some drug dealers to move out of their
neighbourhood, I am sure they must be aware that they could become the next
victims of the increasing drug trade.

They should also know, as I've experienced, that the dealers will just set
up shop blocks away and the result of their fight will be no more than an
inconvenient move for these pushers.

It is ironic that the area between King George Highway and 152 Street along
108 Avenue is one of the worst areas in Surrey. During the 15 years I have
lived here, there have been at least 12 murders committed all within blocks
of that strip.

After talking with several RCMP officers it's become clear there is little
they can do as the culprits only get light sentences and, after a short
incarceration, continue their illegal activities because of the tremendous
amount of money they can make.
