BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS TAKE SECOND PLACE IN WAR ON DRUGS

YOUR ARTICLE detailing cases where high school pupils suspected of
possessing illicit drugs have been strip searched ( ODT , 4.1.02)
highlights a growing and very disturbing trend by both the police and
school trustees. This is reefer-madness hysteria reaching extreme levels as
principals seem bent on taking whatever measures they deem appropriate in a
futile attempt to eradicate cannabis from schools. Concerns for basic human
rights, it seems, take second place to appearing "tough on drugs".
