CRACK IS NOT A COMMUNAL DRUG

RE SUE-ANN Levy's column on the "safe crack use kits" (Jan. 13): I don't
quite know how to break this to city council, but here goes. Crack is not a
communal drug. Crackheads are not like the potheads of the '60s and '70s,
sitting around in circles singing folksongs and sharing their stash. It is
a solitary drug where they sit and shake and try to find a new way to rob,
steal, hook or whatever to feed the monster. If they want a crack pipe,
generally they just pick up a pop can. And anyway, I doubt you can get AIDS
from a pop can or a toilet seat, for that matter.

Mike Dodds, Scarborough

(We're mystified by their logic on AIDS prevention, too. See today's Letter
of the Day)
