EAST BECKLEY IS EVERYONE'S ISSUE

We all know there is a drug problem in East Beckley area and other parts of
the city. However, we should not pass judgment until we take a stand as a
community.

It is important that every resident become actively involved in making our
community a better place to live and rear our children. We must begin by
attending council meetings and communicating with our elected officials.
They will never know our needs or concerns if we do not generate an awareness.

We hold our officials accountable for their actions, but we must also hold
ourselves accountable for our willingness to communicate with them.

Mrs. Chambers, our councilwoman, has always tried to help solve problems.
She has availed herself to each of us. She cannot do the job alone.

Nothing is gained when we sit back and criticize. Working together brings
success.

We can agree with the writer who said, "All that is necessary for the
forces of evil to win in the world is for enough good folks to do nothing."
