LEGALIZED POT A LOUSY IDEA
Editor, The News:
Re: The recent letter from Chuck Beyer ('War on pot not worth the expense,'
Opinion, Jan. 15).
It seems unbelievable that the federal government is spending millions of
dollars to discourage the use of an addictive substance - nicotine - that
it would even consider being pressed into legalizing another addictive
substance - marijuana.
Who are these majority of British Columbians and Canadians who want the
legalization of marijuana?
Where are the names and numbers?
Thankfully, not in every case does the majority always rule.
Cost and difficulty to enforce would rule out most crimes.
Where can those who do not want marijuana legalized express themselves?
The exception would be for medical purposes only if it is proven to be helpful.
