DOONESBURY STRIP IRRESPONSIBLE
Garry Trudeau showed Jan. 27 that he must live in Cartoonland, where
nothing is real and no one gets hurt. He suggested that smoking
marijuana - a substance illegal in every state - is less dangerous
than smoking cigarettes. Cigarettes are not good, but to imply that
marijuana is harmless is a fraud.
It is time The Commercial Appeal showed some sensibility and removed
political speech from the comics. Moreover, to print this strip where
children and young adults will be reading is reckless and
irresponsible. Put the Sunday Doonesbury on the op-ed page where it
belongs, or, better yet, just remove it from the newspaper.
