STOP WHINING OVER ZERO-TOLERANCE EXPULSIONS
The mother of the expelled Arnold High School student should "get real"
("Zero-tolerance policy can hit students hard," Jan. 27.)
Her daughter brought drugs to school, up to 20 grams of pot, with intention
to "share" with another student. What did she expect the School Board to do
- - a little suspension, a little slap on the wrist? Well, guess again.
I am sure that most parents are sick and tired of these kids bringing drugs
to school and offering it to our kids. I send my kids to school to get an
education, not sit next to some pot-smoker who wants them to join 'em in
lighting up. It is because of children like this woman's that we now have
to have frequent talks with our kids on how to "just say no."
If it were my child - and yes, I have an adolescent son - after he was
expelled I would immediately seek treatment instead of whining to the
School Board and the press about how unfair it is. What kind of message
does this send the daughter?
