LATE NIGHT RAID ENDS IN ARREST OF FORMER POLICE OFFICER

Owensboro police raided a Benttree Drive apartment shortly after midnight
Wednesday and arrested a former police officer on drug and weapon charges.

Officers arrested David Bernard Douglas, 50, of the 3900 block of Benttree
Drive at 12:30 a.m. Thursday and charged him with trafficking in marijuana
while armed and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, according to
an Owensboro Police Department report.

Douglas resigned from the city police department in 1987 after nine years
as a patrol officer.

Officers executed a search warrant at Douglas' apartment and seized scales,
baggies, a .25-caliber pistol, knives, bags containing suspected marijuana
and cash totaling $6,600, the report said.

Douglas was arrested by city police in March of 1994 and charged with
trafficking within 1,000 yards of a school.

At the time of the 1994 arrest officers seized more than $6,000 in cash,
two handguns and more than eight ounces of marijuana from Douglas' home in
the 800 block of Hall Street. Douglas was convicted on that charge.
