MARYLAND: DELAYS SCUTTLE DRUG CASES
Judges have dismissed hundreds of drug cases since August because of
missing analyses from the police crime laboratory, prosecutors say.
The problem emerged after an increase in drug arrests last year. More
than 1,000 cases have been dropped or postponed, prosecutors
estimated, because of the delays, while the police contend that
prosecutors are losing the test results. Judges say tests on whether
a suspected drug is an illegal narcotic affects the foundation of
every drug prosecution.
