ADDICTS NEED HELP, NOT SCORN

This is in response to the Jan. 22 letter, "Don't aid addicts, alcoholics."

Who is the letter-writer to say that these people are to go to hell anyway?
Last time I checked, we didn't decide whether people went to heaven or hell.

Also, people make mistakes and, even if it is a smaller percentage than we
would like, some people are helped by the government-supported programs and
such that we help pay for.

I can tell that the letter-writer has never been in an addict's situation
and has never had someone close to him die of a drug overdose, or he would
want to give all of the money he could to help such people.
