DRUG LAWS MAKE NO SENSE TODAY

To the Editor,

Re: Mounties bust grow op - Jan. 14

What kind of person can write so coldly and dispassionately about
those unfortunate enough to be caught up in Canada's drug laws, a
state sanctioned, Hitler-like program designed to divert our attention
from more important issues by ruining the lives of the innocent few
who happen to use or sell certain drugs?

What kind of person seems not to have a clue that our drug laws make
no sense whatsoever? If drugs are banned because they are harmful, why
don't we ban alcohol and tobacco?

What kind of person seems not to realize that there is no more reason
to punish drug users and dealers today than there was in the past to
hang witches, lynch blacks or gas Jews?

I suppose that in simply reporting what the police are doing to us
without allowing any discussion of whether or not the laws they are
enforcing are just, or even effective, your reporter is merely
following a long line of ignorant, cold-hearted headline writers from
the past.
