TRUCKS FILLED WITH MARIJUANA CONFISCATED BY CITY POLICE

Seven Arrested In Raid On Home In South End

Seven people were arrested when city police raided a home at 1 Robin Road,
off Kortright Road East in the city south end, just before 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Much of the marijuana had been loaded onto the trucks, rented in Kitchener,
as officers moved in.

It was just two weeks after a series of arrests in and around Guelph that
netted more than $1 million in marijuana.

Tuesday police collected roughly 350 pot plants worth approximately $350,000.

Suspects "were just loading it up (as officers arrived)," said Sgt. Ron
Lord, a police spokesman.

Police arrested six men and one woman, including two living at the home.

They are also from the Ottawa area, Saint-Laurent, Que. and Windsor.

City police, whose investigation was assisted by OPP drug officers, are
contacting police in those communities about the arrests.

But police could not say yesterday if the suspects are believed active in
the drug trade elsewhere.

"It's still under investigation," said Sgt. Brian Larkin, who heads the
Guelph Police drug and intelligence units.

On Jan. 30, Wellington County OPP and Guelph Police raided four houses and
one apartment, confiscating $1.2- to $1.5-million worth of marijuana and
more than $100,000 in growing equipment at three of the houses.

The search warrants were executed as part of a cross-country push dubbed
'Project Green Sweep.' There were 160 raids involving 500 officers.

Electrical meters in the area houses raided Jan. 30, and the one on Robin
Road, were bypassed to power lights and other growing equipment, police said.

Police did not suggest a link between the raids Tuesday and those on Jan. 30.

Along with the marijuana, $35,000 worth of growing equipment was
confiscated Tuesday from the home.

The seven people arrested Tuesday face charges for production and
possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Those arrested are:

Residents of the home, Van Dung Trinh, 38, and Chi Thi-Kim Do, a
33-year-old woman, who also face theft of hydro charges

Dai Quang Hoang, 34, of Ottawa

Niranh Chanthavimone, 41, of Saint-Laurent, Que.

Thien Man Nguyen, 29, of Windsor

Duc Tinh Bui, 44, of Nepean

Tam Van Dinh, 36, of Ottawa.
