WOMAN GETS LIFE FOR PEDDLING SHABU

A WOMAN was sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of
selling the prohibited drug shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride, a radio
report said.

Anisa Abdul was also fined half a million pesos for violating the Dangerous
Drugs Act.

Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation arrested Abdul on June 10,
1999 following an entrapment operation. Found in her possession was about
400 grams of shabu worth about 400,000 pesos.

She said, however, she did not know that the package, handed to her by a
certain Emily, contained prohibited drugs.

A bill is being tackled in Congress seeking to impose stiffer penalties
against drug-pushers.
