TREAT CAUSES OF DRUG USAGE

The recent article "Teen addicts struggle to get help in Brevard" contained
the following statement: "The issue takes on added importance because
anecdotal and other evidence suggests the youth drug problem in Brevard is
worse than it is in other places."

Although the issue of having enough facilities to treat the effects of this
terrible epidemic is important, the far more important issue is the
systemic cause of the drug problem.

The primary cause of this tragedy is the erosion of the family and our
moral base.

The news media could do much to prevent this erosion, but instead we are
besieged daily with reporting that has an anti-family, anti-values,
anti-religion bias and editorials that lobby for more erosion of the family
and our moral base.

Much of this drug problem in Brevard is a direct result of the extremely
liberal, no-absolute-truth, anti-family, anti-morals, anti-religion culture.

I suggest the newspaper publish articles that compare the number of drug
users vs. non-drug users from various backgrounds.

The data will show that kids raised in traditional, two-parent families,
with regular church attendance, participation in the Boy Scouts or Girl
Scouts, Awanas or Young Life are far less likely to become drug-user
statistics.
