NO BASIS FOR OBLIGATORY DRUG TESTS
Transportation Chief General Roberto Lastimoso has admitted that there is no
basis for subjecting all drivers to drug testing before the issuance of a
driver's permit.
This was disclosed by Rep. Jacinto Paras (3rd District, Neg. Oriental) after
a meeting with the LTO chief after the issue was taken up before the
Committee on Transportation, which he chairs, two weeks ago.
Paras said Lastimoso pointed out that there is no law that really mandates
it and that it is only for professional drivers.
Paras said Lastimoso assured that they will address the clamor against the
drug testing requirement.
He also welcomed the move of the IBP to file a class suit against the drug
testing requirement, which they believe is unconstitutional and could lead
to graft and corruption.
