STUDENTS TO BE POLLED ON DRUGS
In April, 50-75 Windham High School Students in grades 9 and 10 will take a
survey asking them questions about their use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs.
The survey will be conducted by Northeast Communities Against Substance
Abuse (NECASA). Teachers will use data from the survey to develop drug
prevention programs and make appropriate changes.
NECASA is an organization that covers 21 towns in Windham Tolland and New
London counties and is funded by the state Department of Mental Health and
Addiction Services and the federal Office of Juvenile Justice and
Delinquency Prevention.
NECASA works with schools and other municipal agencies to help develop
substance abuse prevention programs and provide information.
It is part of the Connecticut Prevention Network, a conglomeration of
regional agencies throughout the state serving the same purpose as NECASA.
The survey is being funded by a grant of up to $100,000 from the Office of
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency prevention. The Consultation Center of the
Yale University School of Medicine is assisting in the administration of
the survey.
