MISSING MARIJUANA TRIGGERS BRAWL

A dispute over two missing marijuana joints apparently triggered a
wholesale brawl in a Cambridge apartment early Saturday that resulted in
three people being treated in hospital and five arrests.

Ten police officers were eventually involved in the investigation into the
uproar. Knives, beer and liquor bottles, chairs and a pool cue were used as
weapons, police said.

The apartment is on King Street near Lowther Street in the Preston area.
The brawl erupted around 2:20 a.m. Det. Mike Williams, one of the
investigators, said it apparently stemmed from two missing marijuana
cigarettes.

Two men were taken to Cambridge Memorial Hospital with head injuries and a
third arrived for treatment on his own. Most received numerous cuts.

Four men and one woman, ranging in age from 18 to 32, were held for bail
hearings yesterday on charges including assault causing bodily harm,
assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.
