CLOSE TO DECEIT

It is clear that Ricardo Pimental thinks only in black or white. Either the
tightening of border controls must do a perfect job of controlling
immigration, or they should not be enacted. After all, if prisons cannot
perfectly keep drugs out, how can we perfectly keep illegal aliens from
sneaking in?

But it is obvious that prison controls do keep some drugs out. So, would
not tightened border control keep some illegals out?

Further, he argues that because it would be complicated to discriminate
between people who overstay for "good" reasons and those who overstay for
nefarious reasons, we shouldn't do it.

There are more howlers, but the last one deserves special mention. He does
not want the bill to pass, but he wants improved intelligence. What would
be the use of having superb intelligence if we continue with our porous
borders? "Hey, a bad guy wants to come in, stop him!" Uh, whom do you mean
to do the stopping?

His logic is so faulty that one must look for a hidden agenda. The likely
one is that he wants nothing done to impede the flow of illegal aliens into
this country. It would more honest for him to say so rather than complain
about a lack of perfection in a proposed law to tighten borders.
