STUDENT'S PAN OF BROWNIES IS POT OF TROUBLE

Chancellor High School senior Christopher C. Corker was hoping to get a
good grade when he baked a batch of brownies for a math assignment.

What he earned instead was a felony drug charge.

Corker, the starting quarterback on the football team this year, was
arrested Thursday and charged with spiking the brownies with marijuana.

At least 20 unsuspecting students ate the brownies in class Thursday, but
no one got sick--or stoned, Spotsylvania County sheriff's Maj. Howard Smith
said yesterday.

"They had no effect on any students," he said.

Corker, 18, admitted adding the illegal narcotic to the brownie mix, Smith
said. He was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana,
then released to his parents.

"This has absolutely ruined school projects for other students," Smith
said. "Kids are going to be afraid to take anything other kids bring in to
eat now."

Corker's fellow students complained after noticing the brownies smelled
funny, and hearing a rumor that they'd been spiked with marijuana, Smith said.

Corker told Deputy Sharon Elethorp that he had to make brownies for a math
assignment using certain measurements and values, Smith said.

"People kept asking me for brownies because when kids see you with food,
they always want some," the student told authorities. "In third period, I
walked up and down the rows and gave brownies to whoever wanted one."

Elethorp, the school resource officer, retrieved a plastic container from
the student's locker.

"When she opened it, there was a strong smell of marijuana," Smith said.
"And there were a few brownies left, too."
