LEGAL STATUS OF ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO

RE: "NEW rules cause reefer madness,"Feb. 28 by Mindelle Jacobs. She
writes, "This entire mess could have been avoided if Ottawa had simply
legalized marijuana for adult use while continuing with clinical trials.
Pot is, after all, one of the most benign drugs on the planet." Jacobs
evidently believes that all "benign" recreational drugs should be legal.
Could Jacobs please explain in a future column whether or not she favours
prohibiting the non-benign drugs of alcohol and tobacco? Personally, I feel
strongly that no government has the right to ban any drug, benign or
otherwise. I believe my position is logical, at least. Should Jacobs
advocate no change in the legal status of alcohol and tobacco, hers would
be anything but.

(Let's see if Jacobs tackles the issue again.)
