LET THE CANADIAN PEOPLE DECIDE ABOUT LEGALIZING
Re: Medical marijuana exemptions don't work, March 1.
I sympathize with multiple-sclerosis sufferer Rick Reimer and wish
him good luck in his fight for continued legal access to medicinal
marijuana.
It is disappointing that some people with puritanical minds continue
to take potshots at marijuana users. It is a travesty of justice that
use of alcohol, which kills thousands upon thousands from cirrhosis
and car accidents each year, remains legal while marijuana possession
is illegal.
If our politicians were logical, they would end the farce and legalize
marijuana, instead of spending millions of dollars enforcing
anachronistic and ineffective laws.
Why does the government not hold a national referendum on whether
marijuana should be legalized? I think many people would like to see
one. Whenever talk radio shows bring up the topic of legalizing
marijuana, an unusual number of listeners seem to call in.
