TRAFFICKING: OFF LIMITS
Regarding the March 4 People's Forum letter headlined "Targeting Traffickers,"
from the president of the N.C. Narcotic Enforcement Officers' Association:
While we fully share his concerns about the damage caused to our society by
drug traffickers, we would like to make two corrections First, the N.C.
Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission has not made any recommendations to
the legislature. The commission is still hard at work preparing a list of
alternatives for consideration by the General Assembly, with a final report,
not yet completed, due to the legislature by the end of May. Second, the
commission is not considering any alternatives which affect drug trafficking
offenses or reduce mandatory sentences for drug traffickers.
