DRUG CRIMES

To add to Robert Sharpe's outstanding letter, Just Say No (March 13):
Almost all so-called drug-related crime is caused by drug prohibition. Not
drugs.

When pure pharmaceutical grade Bayer heroin was legally sold in U. S.
pharmacies, there was no such thing as drug-related crime. Drug dealers, as
we know them today, didn't exist. And deaths from drug overdoses were rare.
That's because the drugs were of known quality, known purity and known potency.
