LISU DRUG PEDDLER SHOT DEAD AT BUS STAND

Chiang Mai police shot dead one of four drug-peddling highlanders near the
city bus terminal yesterday.

Police gunned down Ta (surname not known), a Lisu from Mae Hong Son, as he
and three others were about to hand over 12,000 methamphetamine pills to
customers at the terminal.

Police said Ta had resisted arrest and tried to fight back.

The other three suspects managed to escape.

Police said the gang worked under a northern trafficking network which
smuggled the drug through a border channel in Chiang Rai.
